Hi, I get my redundancy on the 28th August and I am going to take my Grandson to York for a few days over that bank holiday weekend, he is really into the historical stuff, I haven't stayed in York before, (my parents honeymooned there in 1950) but I would like to stay for 2 nights in the city near the river so that we can really spend some time there. Any idea? I fancy somewhere abit posh but family friendly.

oh no craft, Mum and Dad stayed in a good ole B&B in 1950!
Dot there are 3 bridges over the river Ouse in central York, they are Lendal Bridge, Ouse Bridge, and Skeldergate Bridge. The only streets which your parents could have stayed in which border the river (I think) are North Street and Skeldergate. The 2 hotels I gave links to are in Skeldergate, the Queens Hotel is actually on the river front. Lady Anne Middletons is not. There is a hotel in North Street which fronts the river but from what I can gather it is not to be recommended.

Dot, if you get the time and the weather is decent, take your grandson to the York Maize. It is out of the city, but there is a good bus service to it. He will love it, and it is very good value for money

its on a wee boat house on the beach opposite the Ballygally Hotel - check it out!!
