Hi, I get my redundancy on the 28th August and I am going to take my Grandson to York for a few days over that bank holiday weekend, he is really into the historical stuff, I haven't stayed in York before, (my parents honeymooned there in 1950) but I would like to stay for 2 nights in the city near the river so that we can really spend some time there. Any idea? I fancy somewhere abit posh but family friendly.

The only streets which your parents could have stayed in which border the river (I think) are North Street and Skeldergate. The 2 hotels I gave links to are in Skeldergate, the Queens Hotel is actually on the river front. Lady Anne Middletons is not. There is a hotel in North Street which fronts the river but from what I can gather it is not to be recommended.
