Can you recommend a care home?
4 Answers
I am looking for personal recommendations for care homes in England. This is to reassure those who have no alternative to residential care, that there are residential and nursing homes that really do 'care' about their residents. This is the sort of information that we need to share amongst each other, so please if you have any personal experience with a care home that you think stands out from the rest, let me know..thanks,

I have just set up a website that lists the best care homes in England (3 star rated by CQC). I am however aware of the limitations of this assessment, so I have been encouraging residents, relatives, visitors and staff to leave 'personal recommendations' about the home - in order to help others who, like yourself, need to find a good home and therefore add value to the star rating system. The response has been quite amazing, with some care homes receiving messages of support that would quite frankly make you want to cry. I feel passionately that care within a residential environment should be a 'home' with the support needed for that individual, but with the focus being on 'individual'. I would be very interested to hear about your daughter if that isn't too personal for you and also how you are approaching your search for residential care? kind regards.
Here goes,
She is Autistic with Develop mental Delay, twenty four years old, with a mental age of approximately twenty months, she does not speak, but has a full vocal range, fully ambulent, and makes her needs known by looking at whatever she is interested in, taking you to whatever, and pushing your hand towards it.
She uses adults as tools, generally very happy, loves being sung to, will touch your lips to change the song.
Thats her basics,
Her day centre have said they can no longer cope, and if we can't find another that will take her, and so far its none, looks like trying residential.
Her Social worker is looking, but nothing yet, thats why your post caught my eye, do you think you could put up the web address of your site?.
Many thanks.

I am sorry I have taken so long to get back to you. The website is www.best-care-home.co.uk and I hope you find it helpful. It has only been live for about 6 weeks, but already care homes, grateful for some positive publicity, are beginning to respond. The area that I have been particularly staggered by is that so many people want to leave a personal recommendation about the care home they use. It is very heartening when all you hear about are the terrible stories in the news. I will keep an eye on this post now, so if you have any questions let me know, alternatively email me through the website, my name is Debbie Harris and I will get back to you immediately. Again, sorry my reply has been so tardy.
