Bee Keeping

I'm in a perfect position to keep a hive or two but I know next to nothing about bee keeping. Can anyone tell me where I can do a course (preferably free as I'm unemployed)? I live near Burnley in Lancashire.

I've been a bee-keeper for many years here in the western U.S. Although most of my knowledge about the art (it's as much an art as it is a science) came form relatives, especially a paternal grandfather passing his own treasure trove of knowledge gained, yet from his own father, etc. It does seem to work well for me though.
Having said that, I've taken some courses at a nearby State University. The latest course, for example, centered on the phenomena of CCD (Colony Collapse Disorder) affecting vast segments of the bee industry world wide. It was very helpful in teaching cause and prevention in an evolving situation.
The course was offered, as are other pertinent areas, from within the College of Agronomy. Surely, such courses are available in the U.K.
This is cited as an example of where you may locate formal training, although, from my perspective bee keeping is a relatively simple matter.
Best of luck!
