Puppy halitosis
4 Answers
My 6 month old Border Terrier has developed bad breath. She's obviously teething - and though losing teeth, is still eating ok and seems a typical healthy pup.
Shes on Purina dried puppy food (moistened) and wondered if this could be the cause, as im guessing it can't be rotten teeth causing halitosis at this age.....? One of the baby 'fangs' was blackened when it fell out and I assumed that was the cause and that the odour would then improve, but it hasn't. She has loads of teething toys with nobbly pip things on then, and chews these when she feels the need, so Im not sure whether this is a teething or diet related problem.
Thanks in advance.

All my dogs baby teeth have been white (the ones I have seen - they mostly ate them!) when they fell out and they did not have any smell to their breath.
Maybe she has a tooth that is stuck and has caused an infection.
Sometimes the vet may have to help the tooth out, or correct one that is growing wrong.

Agree with kita, a normal healthy puppy of that age should have sweet puppy breath (nothing on earth like it) get her checked in case she has a baby tooth stuck and rotting.
Give her lots of bones/pigs ears to help loosen them and keep her teeth clean. Denta sticks are fine for puppies of all ages.I would also try feeding her food dry, so it is crunchy.
