i'm not a fan of tattoos at all, on men or women, but in your case donna, it could be a good idea. it's not like a prison or forces number you're thinking of having done, which might at some point become irrelevant, but something permanent to alert any one to a permanent, potentially life-threatening condition (under certain circumstances) you have.
would it be as immediately recognisable as a medical bracelet or necklace? would you regret having it done if there was an occasion in the future when you didn't necessarily want someone to know you have diabetes?
in theory, i think it's a good idea, but i'd give it a lot of thought before you have something so permanent done.

Sara, I'm similar to you. :p
I have one at the nape of my neck - it's a Kokopelli.
There are times I'm happy with it, but I can't bring myself to wear a vest top at work in the summer for fear of the children seeing it and certain dresses are a no no for a night out unless I have my hair down.
It's a personal thing for me, I didn't get it to be with the in crowd or to show it off.
Donna.. Couldn't you wear a necklace instead? It's a pity there's no universal symbol that you could have tattooed on your wrist instead rather than writing the word - diabetic.

I agree with daffy. The paramedics would look for a bracelet but maybe not a tattoo if you were in an accident.
With regards to the branding - I have one quite large tattoo which tends to suprise people when revealed. I love it but it took me a long time to get it as I wanted the perfect design and had to decide where I wanted it etc... So if you want one, get one. Just make sure you've thought it through.
