I have got the theme of this puzzle (after a lot of fishing around), have got the 18 letter phrase from the misprinted letters (clever that one), and have got the title and "author" to be highlighted. But there are only 21 letters in the title and author. Does it mean that also to be highlighted is an empty square in the title and two empty squares after each initial of the name, which would then make 24 squares? If so, I am at a loss to understand 3, 20 and 31 down. Can someone please explain? Also, the only other one I cannot get is 35 down. I would be grateful for any help. It's driving me crazy. Thanks.

Yes - the three squares you mention are to be highlighted. Just think what punctuation marks might replace them.
