rant.
So here goes , the scenario----

Washing the dishes , phone rings in the next room.

Dash to answer , but ringing stops before I get there.
No message , number withheld, so no big deal really.

Back to the washing up, same phone performance twice more.

Am fuming now, have never dried my hands so often in such a short space of time!

Why are people such idiots , either speak to me , or leave a message or get off my line.

Realise that many calls are automated , so could kill the technology as well.!

So there , feel much better for that.Brenda.

Hi brenda - good therapy this - what annoys me is how, with id on phones now, we are all obsessed with who rang us
Why not just let it ring, then do 1471 when you are finished to see who has rung you? You can then decide whether to ring them back or not.

Thanks both , and squarebear , I must be really thick , never even thought of that. Honest. Must be programmed to answer the phone when it rings.!!!! B.
just do what i do.

let it ring off. if its important they will ring back. again let it ring off its inconvenient for you to answer. if its important they will ring back. if they ring at a convenient time, by all means answer - after all they are paying, if not let it ring off.

eventually they will either realise that it isnt that important and stop bothering you/leave a mesage, or drive around to check you are stil alive, and hopefully bring some viscount biscuits (the minty ones).

glass of wine & some nibbles!! ;0)
I hardly ever answer my landline. If people don't want to leave a message it can't be that important and all my friends have my mobile number so can text me. I don't think I would bother having a landline if I didn't need it for my broadband.
My wife: "Why didn't you answer the phone?"
Me: "Probably not important."
My wife: "But what if someone was in an accident, or somebody's died?"
Me: "My answering the phone wont change anything one iota."
my mum used to say that.

she never used to say 'but what if its anglian windows wanting to sell us a conservatory at an extra special discounted rate'

always something about accidents and dead people.
I keep getting these voice activated phone calls from loans companies, insurance companies etc etc. They are so bloody annoying ............. they normally go something like this "Hello my name is Jane, would you like to clear your debts" thats normally when I put the phone down.

On average I receive one of these calls every day. When dialing 1471 its normally 'caller withheld their number'.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
