Cat's Ears

My cat keep scratching herself that it bleeds, it's only round her ears but I seem to have to take her to the vets about it every 4 months or so.

All he gives her is an antibiotic and anti inflamotory. I ask what causes it and any way to prevent it and it draws a blank.

Could it be hayfever?

One of my friends gives her cat piriton although not sure how much or if that's even safe?

If anyone could offer any advice that would be most appreciated, thanks.

If your vet can't diagnose the problem, then why don't you get a second opinion? If it's a seasonal thing, then antibiotics won't help (apart from stopping the sore bits becoming infected). It could be some sort of mite (my elderly dog gets these sometimes, depending on the season) or could be one of any number of skin conditions, perhaps brought on by stress (only speculating, it happens in humans, so why not in animals?). I give Elsa oil of evening primrose, which seems to help her skin. Maybe try that - it won't hurt the cat. Get some low-dose capsules from any chemist & squeeze one a day into her food. Living in a rural area our 2 Burmese Cats suffer from harvest mites in the summer. Our vet (who is brilliant!!)
suggested we use "FrontlineCombo" which eliminates ,ticks, fleas & mites It's not cheap, but it HAS
worked on our two - no more scratching.
Worth a try but see what your vet thinks ?
