I think that these are the answers, but I can't quite see why. Thanks a lot for any help and explanations.

23d - Catch = take, written in tens (numbers) inverted
30a - Knock off can be used for do quickly, stop, take away, kill and pirate (the verb)
44a Urbane 1 was a pope and ze are the two middle letters of Lozere
