Booting up?

Computer - Compaq N400c Evo
At switch on the options screen appears with -
Start in safe mode
Start in safe mode networking
Start normally
etc...
No matter which option you choose it then goes to the Windows XP logo screen for a few seconds, then to the Compaq logo screen for a few seconds then back to the options screen from where you can start the whole process all over again but progressing nowhere. Any solutions out there? Thank you for your help and reply.

you've got a bad system - you could try a repair ... but if it's so badly corrupted - take it as an opportunity to build a new clean system.

it's a p3 so originally were we talking 98, 2000 or has it always been a struggling XP install?

and do you have the windows disc for it
and all the drivers
