Silly question time

Hi everybody wondering if anyone maybe able to help? I have a cold sore come out today, now the thing is does anybody know if the cold sore virus is contagious? The reason i ask is i went out last week & noticed somebody with a cold sore drinking & the point i'm trying to make is if that persons glass hasn't been washed properly in the pub could the virus still be on the glass & be passed onto me? Thanks for any medical people among you who can help LOL
