i am currently looking for a new car and i am looking for suggestion on what to get.  I have a budget of 5K and want something fairly realible (needs to be used for daily commute of 60 miles) but also must be fun for a weekend toy! I would prefer something which is rwd, but welcome to other sugeestions. Also my main criteria for choice is performance over looks or brand. (To give you an idea. 0-60 aprrox 7 secs, top speed 130+) Also Insurance is not a problem for me.

Thanks for your help!

Assuming you are in UK (apologies if you are not) the speed limit is 70 mph so why want a car that can do 130+ mph?
so he can do that on a A road and talk on his mobile while police catch him but the courts let him off, thats why!!!...... oh wrong thread!

Well said, twiglet4frog. I hope he doesn't commute anywhere near me !

Blimey, that kind of performance for five grand? I am going to assume you mean 'new' as in new to you, not brand new new Thats still quite a tall order. I would suggest you look at an Impreza Turbo. For that kind of cash it will be quite old, but they are very reliable and tend to be owned by enthusiastic owners who look after them. They have all the performance you could want, and will certainly be fun at the weekend! Otherwise, maybe somthing like a Toyota Supra? again, a bit old, and maybe not so reliable, or a Porsche 944 turbo? very fast, and well built, and without the unfortunate connotations of 911 ownership.

Yeah meant new to me! sorry! also wouldn't mind a modern classic. scrap impreza idea as i dont like them! + not rwd. Reason for wanting something fast is for track days. supra sounds good idea have been in a non turbo before and was quite good.
BMW springs to mind.
What about a Nissan 200sx turbo.
