The answer last month about Marillion.
Did anyone else answer Electric Gypsy?

I've just scouted around now and I think you have a case. Their official website has Electric Gypsy as the first name though it was apparently a short lived instrumental group.

The band members a fair bit changed when they became Silmarillion, so i don't think you'll have a case. I think the website merely tracks the members of Marillion and the bands they used to be in and not necessarily the history of Marillion itself.
It'd be like saying the the Beautiful South used to be called the Housemartins just because Paul Heaton was in both.
I dunno though, plus I'm bais though as I put Silmarillion!
mldr79 I researched this quite deeply.
Doug Irvine and Mick Pointer were in the band Electric Gypsy (who were a trio) They were both in Silmarillion.
On thier official website they show Electric Gypsy as the start of Marillion. There are no bands prior to Electric Gypsy.
I think its conclusive and cannot see why it isn't.
