whilst recently in India my diabetic hubby was told that if you cut 1 piece of okra up and leave overnight in a glass of water, drink the water first thing next morning [ throw away the actual okra] it will reduce your blood sugar.Has anyone else tried this and does it work, if so why ?

There MAY be a place for Okra in Type 2 late onset diabetes, but certainly no place for it in an Insulin Dependant subject.
Just a thought..........why would one want to cut up an Okra and put it into water before one went to bed, wake up in the morning, throw the Okra away and drink the water, when all one needs to do is to take a tablet?
Because in some parts of India they can't afford medication and okra is plentiful?

When we visted a village doing some work with ngos we were told the same thing as one of our group was diabetic - she didn't try it though,
Okra is delicious in stews - keep whole, as they slime-up if topped & tailed.
