PC's Dreaming - Humans Defragging

Would this be a reasonable analogy for our current understanding of why we dream? And if so how would you analogise the mouse? motor sensory? input from the master builder maybe..

An excellent analogy ziggy - the human defragging part that is. I don't know about the analogy for the mouse though, although there are some that are of the opinion that the brain of (young) males are ruled by their 'mouse'.

I think it's close - personally I believe that during REM sleep the brain is firing neurons, both used and unused, much like a full disk scan. I think as many of these neuron combinations haven't been used in conscious thought the brain tries to make what sense of the 'messages' that are being made - and we dream. That would explain why the dreams that we remember all have what are familiar componants, though perhaps in unfamiliar situations. I have trouble believing that dreams mean anything, but discussing possible meanings can bring forth issues that the dreamer has.

I love the analogy.Dreams are our subconscious mind interpreting our experiences, and manifesting our emotions, and frustrations, in mental action. A kind of safety valve. They are also used for communication, and analysis.
