Have just watched Derren Brown

I've just watched Derren Brown's explanation as to how he predicted the Lotto numbers on Wednesday and am still not really enlightened. So if I gather 24 people together and get them to shut their eyes, do automatic writing and then calculate the numbers from there I would be able to win the Lottery (and share it with 24 people) I can't help feeling that there must be something else to it! or maybe I over-simplyfied it! What do other AB'ers think?

I think he wants us to think he fixed the machine, but it was just a trick - like when Paul Daniels used to get the bloke's tenner out of an orange, or the guy opens an envelope and whatever he picked is already in it. I suspect magicians know how it's done, but hopefully we'll never find out.

I watched the prog and I still say it was a trick somehow, I noticed he did not show the numbers to the people before he went out of the room, I would have been more convinced if they knew what was on the balls as well as him. Remember he is an illusionist

Dont you think all the people at the front of the room looked very well made up, nicely dressed, were suitably awe-struck and looked totally false? I think they were all a plant and part of the hoax.

I can see that the Lottery's officials might be outed if they won a big prize but I expect that other members of their families buy a ticket and maybe get a £10 win from time to time - surely the only thing the Lottery machine records is what numbers are on the ticket.
I quite often don't want to know how tricks are done, I quite enjoy feeling that some things are unexplainable but this is one trick I wouldn't mind knowing the answer to - for my own profit!

It is all a Trick by Derren Brown and he is not going to reveal anything as it is his Profession.
If by assemblying 24 people to predict the lottery numbers by calculation, then we would all be winning it every week !!!
Predicting the Lottery is exactly that, a Lottery !!!

Derren's 'explanation' was totally unconvincing and as a fan of his I was disappointed although I never really expecte dhim to explain it. The averaging approach just doesn't make sense to me. Can anyone explain what averages he took? He said he divided the numbers by 24 (the number of guessers) but exactly what did he divide by 24? By dividing a series of guesses by 24 how would one ever come up with the number 2 as an average. And how on earth dod they come up with 63 for one of the predictions.
Have a look at the film again. I think it's something to do with the white board be wrote the winning numbers on. (Why did he write them down?) After he writes each winning number he then touches the board. What was he doing? (It looked to me as if he was picking up a little sticker. I'll have to watch it again though because I didn't see him then touch th balls to place the stickers on them.)

The bottom line is its an illusion - ergo he did not actually do it! Bit like sawing the ladies in half - err, they don't actually do that either. Therefore what is the point of it all? If any of you lot were fooled into thinking he really did it then you need to get out more.

The "explanation" was disappointing as he explained how he did the horse racing stunt earlier in the year. I watched the programme and was a bit miffed that he didn't actually explain it. The "wisdom of crowds" explanation was nonsense. It was obviously a stooge who was calculating the averages to reach the numbers that had already been drawn.

If he had worked the averages out before the draw, I would have been more impressed.

The rest of the tricks were just his mates playing along.
