Space missions from the United States take off from Cape Canaveral in Florida yet Mission Control is thousands of miles away in Houston. Why? Wouldn't it be better to have them on the same site?

Nasa has many space centres. I know that the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, deals with all the planning and training of astronauts, and oversees all manned missions. The Kennedy Space Center in Florida deals more with the launching side - probably because of the weather conditions there. Nasa has a brilliant website which might help a bit more - www.nasa.gov
