Illegal Downloads...Your Views

How many chatterbankers will admit to downloading music,films or games illegally using peer to peer software or torrent sites?
I would like to ask those that do why they feel it is ok to do this and would they go and shoplift those same products if this software and websites didn't exist?
I know vibra and Chuck are both of the same opinion as me on this but I never see any opinions from other ABers on this subject.

I would also like to ask the ED why the links to torrent sites are allowed to stay in the games and tech sections of the site? It could be seen as promoting or condoning the use.

I've never done it personally - but only cos I don't know how, don't have a computer at home & would not be allowed to do it at work.

And as for shoplifting? - I do it all the time :-)

Because it always fascinates me that normal,law abiding people see nothing wrong in the practice bobbisox,yet those same people are happy to verbally condemn people who shoplift.There is absolutely no difference between the two practices,both are stealing and both are obviously illegal. I wonder if people understand this and how they justify doing it.
I think the psychological aspect of the whole thing is what interests me really.

Yes I have used them for music tracks but only when there does not seem to be a legal way to purchase the track that I want, for instance if the track has been deleted from catalogues & play lists which seems to happen quite frequently with older more obscure tracks, but this is nothing new before computers we all bought tapes and either copied them from the radio or better still from a friend that had the track that you wanted on 45 or LP record. I know this does not make it right but sometimes there honestly is no legal way to buy the track you want, believe me I always try first before I use peer to peer sites.

I have never understood the need to download movies and put them onto a disc. Surely after watching them, they just gather dust.

I prefer to watch the movies online - and there are some sites which allow you to watch instantly without the need for buffering.

Oh - and I never shoplift.

I have. I've put all my cd's on my lappy...we're talking 1000's upon 1000's of songs. My lappy was playing up, my friend had a look and managed to wipe the entire computer. No back up.

Started the same process again on Gingers lappy....it died...No back up!!! (you'd thick I'd learn)

Yet again...started putting music on....AM getting an external hardrive thingy this time...

Anyway, my daughter wanted some songs from my collection and instead of hunting through the CD's to look for 4 songs I downloaded them. As I already own the songs I didn't feel too bad.

Slight difference there with you ummmm,you already paid for all the music on your PC.I also copy all my purchased CDs to my PC then make back-up copies in case of damage to originals.
