Bob is traveling home at 60mph and arives home on time if he goes 15 mph faster he arives 9mins earlier how far away is he?

Time = Distance/ Speed
let distance = x miles
at 60mph: time = x/60 hours
at 75mph time = x/75 hours

distance = 45 miles
45/60 = 3/4 hn = 45 mins
45/75 = 3/5 hr = 36 mins

s=vt, as the distance is the same in both instances
60t= 75 (t - 9/60) [9/60 makes 9 mins into a fraction of an hour]
so 60t =75t - 11.25
so t=.75 of an hour.
so s= 60 x .75 = 45 miles. Check with the other equation and thats 45 miles too.
so s = 45 miles.
