I am off to Budapest in October - my passport expires in November: Will I be OK?
I've heard some countries require you to have 3 or 6 months left on your passport to travel.
Also, is anybody as incensed as me about the cost of a replacement passport - 42.00 - I think that is disgraceful: fair enough for a first passport, or a lost passport, but not for a renewal surely!

As regards renewal passports. let you in on a secret. If you report your passport lost and then find it the next day you cannot use it as the passport is withdrawn immediately. You have to apply for a new passport. Why not just cancel the notification that it is lost and reinstate the passport. Well there is money to be made.Mr Brown knows all the tricks in the book.
Wait till the ID card bill is made into law. then when you have to shell out 300 the 42 you are complaining about will look like a pittance. And god forbid if you lose your ID card.
An answer to an earlier question similar to this suggested a look at this link which details the cost breakdown of a new passport. you may find it interesting... or not. I don't think it is too bad when you look at it this way and consider it lasts ten years, and in a way is a narrow form of travel insurance!
