How to keep spiders at bay?
26 Answers
I'm moving out of home and into my first flat soon. As I'll be living on my own and am absolutely terrified of spiders, has anyone got any tips for keeping them out of my flat? Many thanks!

I work in a school where, for a display, a child brought in an enormous stuffed tarantula in a frame! And everytime I go in the classroom, I have to turn my back on it and force myself not to look at it! Believe me, I don't want to look at it, but I find myself doing so out of morbid curiosity and then being petrified afterwards! I know it's not alive, but it makes no difference, it still scares the s**t out of me! Good luck with the hypnosis, netibiza, and please do let me know if it works!
purple-eth I said I'd let you know how I got on with my phobia. Well for the first 7 days I was fine, going upstairs with the light on and not panicking, then there was a huge thunderstorm and my sister said she removed a "decent-sized" spider from the hallway. That made me terrified all night, sweating under the duvet and not coming out for air. After a couple of days I decided to be brave again and it was allright. Then some visitors screamed and the husband scooped one in his hands, well the strange thing was that I didn't "sense" it at all and usually I can feel them before I see them, and I did not see this one even though it ran in front of me, that was a first!! The next day there was one on the wall and I didn't see it either, so maybe the hypnosis worked. It's worth a go, girl. Good luck.
So, does the hypnosis mean that you couldn't even see the spiders? That sounds really weird but strangely comforting. I'm not sure if I'd like it or not! I moved into my flat 3 weeks ago, and I'm hoping that if I just keep the place really clean and tidy, I should stay relatively 'spider-free'! That's the theory anyway, but the hoover's staying close at hand! Nice to hear from you, netibiza!

A friend of mine recently told me that if you collect up conkers and put them into something like one of those nets that lemons etc come in then hang the net up say near a window ledge or somewhere spiders congregate it keeps them away for some reason.

I ahd also been told that if you sprinkled talcum powder in crevies and corners where most likely to get spiders it would deter them
