Why are the royal mail striking.....

OK they've got some sort of beef with the management but don't they realise if they strike no one will notice? FFS most of my snail mail is junk these days anyway, everyhting else is managed on line. All they are going to do is deprive themselves of wages for a couple of days. Kin unions what a bunch of donkeys!

A strike in the
mail service will cause a lot of disruption to businesses and they are the people who Royal Mail make the most money from.

If you only get junk mail, why whinge about the strike? The Unions aren't persecuting you personally Geezer, get over it.

The strike is over modernisation of the service. The Unions want to be negotiate the changes, the Management want to impose the changes. Relations between staff and management in the Royal Mail have been terrible for years, and some blame has to go to the Government for letting that situation persist, and for not tackling the Royal Mail pensions blackhole.

Well unions are there to protect the interests of the workers, and that's what they are doing. You might think the unions are donkeys, but postmen are not. My office has not been striking, but in view of management ideas brought in by ass-holes who have never lifted one mailbag, let alone 7 a day, who are trying to grab more out of us while they rake in thousands in bonuses, our office has been baying for a strike call for months. We never got the chance because of waiting for the national vote, and NEVER in 20 years of me being there has that happened. Surely the strength of feeling for a strike tells you something is wrong somewhere, and that something is a management structure who will end up walking away rich, leaving us with nothing, and you, the public, with an increasingly bad service.

Wake up and smell the coffee FFS! it's management causing all this, the same way they have eroded it for the last few years.

Don't believe all you read in the papers (especially the daily mail from what I've seen). I work from 6 till 1.30 each day, and I mean, apart from grabbing a tea or a pee, working!. I have no more to give

G1Geezer, i dont care about mails at the moment, thats why we use emails which is alot quicker etc.

my main concern is our binmen/people have been on strike for over 5 wks, and the street is turning into a landfill site! attracting flies and rats!!!!!!!!

My son has been working as a casual postman for 12 weeks during the summer, he has been absolutely laden with post doing most of the time 4 walks which also included leaflet drops - he was working from 6.00 until 7.00 at night.

Most of the permanent postman only work until lunchtime then they do their second job - black cab drivers.

I told my son to complain and take the post back that he could'nt deliver, but he said they would get a b0ll0cking if they did.

Apparently most of the postman dump the boxes of leaflet drops - and I can't say I blame them.

Wow, what a load of tosh that last answer was! That may have been true once, but that was years back. Nearly all the postmen at my place fall asleep after work knackered, and finish "early" because they are using their own cars and taking their meal break at the end of the duty - take the break at the correct time (when you aren't hungry), and get them to drop off bags instead of cars, and it would go beyond duty time without extra work.

Not all postmen, not all walks, not all areas, are the same.
