On the TV news last night there was a report on two ex soldiers who had started a firm up, making up parcels for the troops in Afghanistan.
They gave you a choice of things to include in the parcels, after you had chosen the contents, they then packed them up and sent them off for you.
If one wanted to send their own parcel of goodies and necessaries. can anyone suggest a list of ideal things to include in a parcel, taking into consideration there is a 2kg weight restriction?
I help pack the boxes every year for the local Marines Association so here is a list of items we usually send:- Shower Gel, Boiled Sweets such as polo, (no chocolate as this melts),Wet Wipes,Cuppa Soups, Deodorant (roll on only),Combs, Shaving Soap, Lip Balm, Antiseptic Cream, Chewing Gum, Playing Cards, Socks,Individual drink sachets such as hot chocolate that can be mixed with water,Tooth Brushes and Paste.
We were doing this last year at Debenhams, I supplied the shoe boxes from my department and the lady off jewellery who's son was serving in Iraq arranged for them to be posted for free at the local post office. We must have sent 30 or so from October onwards. I think individuals have been sending the parcels for over a year now, does this new company make profit rom ths? I understand they need to cover costs, but it isn;t something anyone should make a living at.
It sounds like you're talking about sending a parcel to a person not known to yourself and should perhaps get the official line from the military authorities. I'm sure there would be very strict security on who sends what and to whom ~ after all, anything could be concealed in a parcel to a war zone.
When I sent to my godson - I sent spices seasonings as a lot of the food rice, pasta etc is very bland. Nuts& FHM magazines and tins of tuna and sardines as they can't get them. Shower gel etc they can buy at Camp Basiton.
