If it's a genuine original you won't be able to use it, as they use pulse dialling, whereas modern exchanges only work with DTMF (tone) dialling.

Good grief, ALLIGATOR! The heading says Conerting Bakelite Phone. Surely it's obvious that it's a typo and should read "Connecting".

Rojash helpfully chose to reply with some information minus the hysteria, but agree I should have checked before submitting Q, should have read 'converting' as the 19-30's - 1950's phones may not be cpompatible with sockets in use by modern exchanges.
