At 228 BIG DAD you need to be on medication, 228 is WAY over what it should be, I speak from experience I have high blood pressure.
Your doctor should have prescribed you medication to take your blood pressure down, and if the problem is through drinking alcohol then cut the booze down, your life is more important than drink.
Sorry to be so blunt but this is how the professionals at Leeds Infirmary gave it to me.
I wish you the best.

Betablockers stop stress hormones like adrenaline and noradrenaline having an affect on your heart. They should not be taken if you are asthmatic. Most doctors wont start you on BP lowering drugs until they have checked it at least three times - they want to be sure that it is a perminant rise not a temporary one due to anxiety. Also if the circumforence of your upper arm is more than 14cm make sure the doc knows - they will use a larger cuff.
