Digital Camera
9 Answers
I am after a new digital camera but not really sure what I should be looking for in a camera.
The one I got before was waterproof as I wanted to take it travelling with me but it has since broke hence me wanting a new one.
Has anyone got any reccommendations please?
Thanks!

General suggestions:
Dont get sucked into the 10Mp, 12Mp fight camera makers have to be the most megapixels. A 6mp or 7mp camera with a good lens is just as good.
Go for a decant make as they tend to have decent lenses and have a reputation to keep up: Canon, Nikon, Panasonic etc.
Consider an end-of-line. Most digital cameras are over priced (in my opinion). They replace their models on a regular basis and sell off the old models at huge discount. Most of these are fine cameras and probably onyl 6 months old (in technology terms).
As for suggesting individual models, well that is difficult as there are HUNDREDS of cameras, from £50 up to £400 or more, and small compant up to full size SLRs.
Maybe buy a camera review magazine to see what they suggest (or a camera review web site, but sometimes hard to tell if it is genuine)

Thanks VHG and apologies for not stating whether I want another waterproof one or not. The answer is no I don't think I really need a waterproof one now.
I did see an advert on TV for a Nikon one so may look into that a bit more. I don't really want to pay out a lot for a new camera though max £200 and that is pushing it!

I agree with VHG.
Canon in particular make some great compacts. Check out this one for example:

Couldnt agree more with VHG.My first digital camera was a Hitachi model with 10Mp.I then bought a Nikon Coolpix with 8Mp and because the most important element of a photographic devise ie the lens is made by a camera company the resulting photos are much better. My camera is powered by 2 AA batteries as opposed to a rechargable phone style battery. Two things here 1 - it has the look and the feel of a camera and not that of a pocket calculator and 2 - The lens..the features..the ease of use..the reputation of the manufacturer..are infinately more important than how the camera is powered.
I draw slight issue with VHG only on recommended makes.I would go strongly towards Nikon or Olympus (both photographic product manufacturers and ignore Canon... Panasonic.. Samsung..Hitachi and quite a few more whose main business is televisions ..washing machines ..printers...microwave ovens ...You get my drift
Hope this helps eash and good hunting
