Computer Mouse

My mouse has aquired a life of its own. Thw wireless version just stopped working despite new batteries and I'm now using the wired version.
It sometimes goes to the part of the screen I'm trying to get to but jumps around all over the place most of the time.
This is going to sound reall silly but if I turn it slightly sideways on the mouse mat it sometimes settles down ?
Its driving me nuts !!!

Try cleaning the ball and socket. on some models you ca actually remove the ball and clean. also ensure mat is really flat.
