It's not a home made remedy but try smearing a little Bonjella over the sore as it cuts it off from the air.

My brother in law's girlfriend puts neat nail polish remover on her cold sores - once an hour - seems to work for her - usually gone in a day or day and a half - but it stings!! There again my grandmother said she always put neat perfume on her's when she was younger whihc also stung but worked.

Personally I use Zovriax - I know they are expensive but it lasts for ages

Yeah cath - I used use after shave lotion and it worked but the sooner you caught it the better

This remedy was from a Virologist i knew - mix up a little ground coffee granules with water into a paste and apply to the cold sore at regular intervals. As i (thankfully) dont get cold sores, i have never tried it...but maybe someone who does could test it out?

He (the Virologist) was a Consultant, and not prone to jokes, so i guess it's worth a try. Let me know if it DOES work!

I know it sounds nasty and it's bloomng painfull but.... when the blisters appear... pop them with a needle and squeeze out the gunk. It hurts like heck but but it gest rid of it a darn site quicker.
