are you a foreign national applying for a public sector job ?

they may be bound by the rules of the uk's financial sanction regime, which places an obligation on them to do it. the fsa checks are usually aimed at targetting people or organisaations that mihgt have links with al qaida etc., so it is probably just an arse covering blanket exercise.

They will probably do a credit check on you and if they do, any late payments atc will show up. I assume that your mortgage is in arrears and if so, that will show up. If you are in the UK you can apply for a copy of your credit file and see exactly what is on it.

If the job is in the financial services industry this is common practice. My fiance works in a bank and had to have a credit check before he was officially offered a position.

I am a uk national!!! and i will be working as a case handler for a large estate agency. Will this financial sactions check make a difference to my employment.
its probably to do with the money laundering regulations.
unless you have something illegal in the closet, it shouldn't affect your job offer.
I had to have a financial integrity check and what they called a Scottish check, which is like a crb check, and i only work in retail management!!! From speaking to several managers who were all made redundant with me, they have all been through a similar screening programme in any job they applied for if they passed the initial screening.
