Getting the burnt bits off....
19 Answers
I made rice pudding in a pyrex bowl. I had some one night, then heated up the rest in the oven the next night. Unfortunately, the side I took pudding out from the first night has totally burnt from being put in the oven the next night and no amount of steeping in water or using a scourer will shift it.
Do any of you have tips to get the burnt bits off?
Chucking out the bowl is my last resort :o(

What was the name of that stuff that mothers soaked the old fashioned terry towelling nappies in to get the baby poo stains off? It was a powder that was mixed with water in a bucket. Anyway it cleaned up oven trays like new if you soaked them all night in the stuff.

Caustic soda would definitely shift it. If you use it though, you must exercise extreme caution (rubber gloves and all that).
I bought a 10 kilo bag of the stuff from a chemical company when we used to have a problem with our drains. Once a week I put a cup-full or two down our sink and outside drains. It keeps everything flowing freely.
I've used it many times on burnt-on food in a roasting tray or baking dishes. They come up brilliantly cleanwith no scrubbing. Please be very careful though, if you use it. Rubber gloves are a must.
