These seem to have been causing AB to run slow all day. But surely using AB to solve your puzzle is cheating? What do the puzzlers gain from getting somebody else to provide the answer, unless they are all for prizes, when it really is cheating?

I don't see how this sort of thing can stopped.
i suppose it is just another resource to them, like Google is, my Mum managed to do the Sunday Express crossword every week for nigh on 40 years without the aid of t'internet, just a good dictionary and her own brain.
I don;t know why they don;t have a QuizzAB like the sportsAB, it would solve the problem
Cheating in the same way as using a dictionary is cheating - someone else has gone to the bother or assembling all those words in a single volume just for the benefit of people whose vocabulary isn't good enough.

Exactly, Dot! At least she could be pleased at solving it and it probably kept her brain young as well! If you put all the clues up here and get them answered, what a waste of time. They might as well publish the answers alongside and save everybody the trouble.

But to use a dictionary you have to know what word you are looking for, but maybe you are not 100% sure of how to spell it, a dictionary does not answer a question.

Brokenstoned - it was seeing http://www.theanswerb...s/Question824595.html pop up - I opened it out of curiousity and then asked the question and was told to clear off. I then saw that others were complaining it was slowing AB down, so asked the question........
How can you say using a dictionary is cheating. How can you learn to spell without one. When I was at school we were all issued with one and told bad spelling was not acceptable. If you can't spell the word you want use a dictionary. Also I find reading text messages a nightmare. Maybe this is why the young can't spell.
there is nothing wrong with using AB for the odd answer but people who put loads obviously havent tried very hard
This is a Question and Answer site - I agree some just use it to do the whole puzzle. But then why should everyone else suffer for a few who misuse the site.
Cut off their interweb access, the varmints could be using search engines and all sorts of new-fangled doodahs.
I'm very good at Cryptic and General Knowledge crosswords as I have many helpful books to help me out in solving awkward clues.Mind you I do have one of them handheld electronic Crossword solvers...I know, that does sound like cheating, but hey....you have to find out the answer somehow when you're really stuck!!
I have provided answers on AB a long while back, but now I don't bother with giving answers now.
I complete the Mail on Sunday General Knowledge and Sunday Express General Knowledge crooswords every week,as well as the cryptic ones.Must have a brain like my dad.
Mind you,I have Googled most hard clues which have proved difficult.
That's what I do anyway,so I guess that could be cheating as well.
But,you have to learn some way or other!
