hand brake feels stuck when I reverse

When I was reversing earlier it felt like my handbrake was still on which it wasn\\\'t it felt like the car was lifting up at the back like trying to get over something, it is fine when I am in normal gear and for a while after there was a slight burning smell. When I got home I tried to reverse again and it was fine. Any idea\\\'s what this could be?

It would appear to me that your HandBrake is not releasing as it should even though it appears to do when you operate the brake. Have the cabling checked out otherwise you will wear out your rear brake shoes.

I was wrong, but I have loads of experience of Vauxhalls doing this.

It is usually after rain, or driving through water. I think the brake dust and water form a sort of a glue.

I must admit though that the burning smell is new to me, and gives a bit more cause for concern. On Vauxhalls when it releases there is no further effect.

I suggest you get a garage to clean out the rear drums - if they are drum brakes.

it was absouloutly chucking it down through the night and this morning, am going to see how it goes in the morning and go from there

I have a similar problem on mine (and yes it's a vauxhall!!!).
It turned out to be a seized cable causing the shoes to fail to return to the off position.
