It is roughly in the style of the old HP Lovecraft pulp novels, but far better written, obviously. I loved their mind control, making themselves 'invisible', not in a 'cloaking' style, but deflecting attention so that you knew someone had walked past you, but you'd never be able to recognise them again. I also loved the essential optimism and hope for the human race with which it concluded. I read it when I was nineteen, and it's still my favourite novel.
