Some clues in this crossword areUK place names with non literal pronunciations. For example one of the clues and answer is Piggott (9) and of course the answer is Leicester. The one I am struggling with is Sun dismissed lies from politicians. (6) I have -O-I-S. Thanks

If this isn't a place name then:-

TORIES (politicians) = stories (lies) - s (sun)

Thanks for that try Jumbuck but the rules of the crossword say all of them are UK Place names. Check my letters? Nothing on stern creates a stink Odour. Crude oil found following jouney in African capital Tripoli. Spades thin out row Scull. I think these seem correct? I have tried sol for sun but SOLI-S is not somewhere I am familiar with?
Yes, those seem ok.

In you OP you say "Some clues in this crossword areUK place names with non literal pronunciations"; I assumed that that meant that the answers to other clues were not placenames. But if they are all placenames, then I don't (yet) know what the answer should be.
I'm also stuck on that one! What about 5 across,Tool fire H?L?O?B
