Vanishing trick

What causes your answer to a question to vanish without trace at the point of being posted/submitted ? My intended contribution to a thread did just that and I could not be bothered to retype it (it was somewhat lengthy, but there was no warning that/if, it was too long) and it feels rather annoying.

I know exactly what you mean. Frustrating isn't it - but there is a solution. I type my questions and answers into a Word document and then copy and paste into AB. If they then disappear, I still have the original to try posting again.

The cause on the vanishing act is that you have exceeded the allowable characters (not words) for each post. Your construction is actually still there. Simply go back and click on "Post an Answer" again and voila, it will reappear intact. At that point, simply use naomi24's solution or just scroll your reply down about half way, highlight the entire LAST half of your answer and the select "cut" from the Edit bar at the top. Submit the first half, re-select Post an Aswer and select "Paste" for the second half and then submit in two parts.

Cumbersome, I know from experience... but that's all we have for now. I've asked for a warning of some sort when one tries to submit too long of an answer (which used to exist in the previous itieration), but to of no avail... yet. Hope springs eternal, no?

You don't need to use Word or any other editor, just highlight what you've typed and copy it (using Ctrl-C) from the answer box to the clipboard before clicking on Submit. Then if it doesn't appear in the thread it's readily available to be pasted into a new answer from the clipboard using Ctrl-V.
