I have a motability car which my wife drives as well as myself, I am purchasing a car for her so that she has one of her own in case I need to use the car for the hospital and she needs a car to get around. As well as driving the motability car she has also got her PCV licence and she drives school buses, as well as coaches on private. I have been informed that she cannot get any no claims discount when she insures the car as the motability car is insured in my name, with her as a named driver and she is anamed driver on the coach/decker insurance. Can anybody give me any information regarding this, if I contact my insurance company, will they be able to confirm that she is a named driver, and as such, will she be able to claim a no claims discount on the insurance on her new car?
Recently, some companies have been taking into account named drivers and letting them earn a no claims discount and then have an NCD when they get their own policy (all with same insurance company). This is all quite recent though..
Direct Line and the Co-op (let you have 3 yrs NCD on new own policy) do, others might as well.
There are companies about who will give her a discount as long as she doesnt buy a high group car. I dont know if the comparison sites give these quotes but a local broker should certainly be able to help. That is assuming that neither of you have had any claims in the last few years !
