Who is your favourite?  Not the ones you fancy the pants off, but your fave for their acting abilities.  I think Brad Pitt is brilliant.  Very rarely typecast and so believable in every part I've ever seen him in.  If you compare Meet Joe Black, Seven and Twelve Monkeys to name just 3, completely different parts but all played outstandingly well.

Yup I'd agree with Mr Pitt. Very versatile. Robert Downey Jr. also...
For the same reasons you give pixi, I'd pick Johnny Depp.  Already looking forward to his dark portrayal of Willy Wonka. Brad is good too, ditto Tim Robbins, but second choice would definitely be Kevin Spacey.  I think he's just fantastic and utterly believable in everything he does.
I think Tom Hanks is a believable, brilliant actor and again - rarely typecast
I agree with Chazza, Tom Hanks is the best actor ever to walk the earth, he's just brilliant in everything!

not one of my personal favourites, but i agree about brad pitt - many people dismiss him as an actor because of his looks, but he's done some great acting - se7en, 12 monkeys, fight club, etc.

my favourites include johnny depp (great in pretty much everything), geoffrey rush (shine is a highly underrated film) and the late great james stewart was fantastic in many films, particularly the obvious ones - what a wonderful world, vertigo, rear window, etc...

A list of seriously good actors (not overblown stars!): James Woods, Alan Rickman, Michael Crawford, Buster Keaton, Tim Robbins, Jimmy Nail, Christopher Walken, Michael Gambon. And some actresses? Patricia Routledge, Julie Christie, Julia Roberts, Kim Novak.

I think Johnny Depp is pretty over-rated as an actor. My problem with him is that he only ever plays freaks and characatures. The only film I've ever seen him in where he tried to play  a 'real person' was Nick of Time and he was crap at it.

On the other hand, one of the most under-rated actors is John C. Reilly.

I think Leonardo DiCaprio has put in some good performances, 'What's eating Gilbert Grape' in particular!

Morgan Freeman is my favourite. Not only does he do a great job but I have yet to see one of his films which aren't great too
Yes I agree, Morgan Freeman.

Tom Hanks, very closely followed by Denzel Washington and Kevin Spacey.

Kevin Spacey and John Cusack. But the greatest ever, for me, was Alec Guinness.

i really like julia roberts films i think she is a very good actress and i also think colin farrell is a rather good actor i think hes really good with accents and the fact that he is extremely handsome has nothing to do with it lol. ( honest ) !!!

Hi All, thanks for all your replys

I too think Kevin Spacey is brilliant.  And I forgot about Samuel L Jackson - the man is a star.  He has some of the best lines I have ever heard.  Johnny Depp is okay too but I agree with Shipstabber about him mainly playing freaky parts, its true but hes good at it. Harvey Keitel is quite good too.

I think that Robert Carlyle should get a mention. One of my favourite actors as he is so versatile. Michael Caine aswell, for bringing something new to films...
I think that ther are too many very good actors to pick just one.....Apart from films there are the television actors and includes females....How does one choose the best?

Brad Pitt actor or movie star?

From IMDB about our brad:

"you must realize, if you haven't already, that despite a number of horrendously bad movie choices since her Oscar win over five years ago, Angelina Jolie is a very, very good actress. And conversely, Brad Pitt, despite excessive, secretive reserves of charm that would make an oasis in the desert look bone-dry, is a very terrible actor. When called upon to display affection, frustration, anger, or deeply conflicted love for a woman who has lied to him the entire time he's known her, Pitt has basically one expression, that of a man in repose with perhaps one troubling thought crossing his mind for about five seconds. Sometimes he will add a small smile or a frown or furrow his brows, but it brings to mind Dorothy Parker's notorious expression about running the gamut of emotions from A to B, though in this case, it's more like A- to B-. Jolie, however, taking a thinly written role that relies more on character and emotion as opposed to what's being passed off as snappy banter, can go from steely to sensitive in a heartbeat - and sometimes convey both emotions at the same time, without ever mussing her make-up or getting lint on her expensive outfits. She knows she is a movie star first, but every now and then, you can see the actress lurking beneath.

horses for courses mind.
