Citroen Picasso dashboard lights

I have just started up my picasso and on the dashboard everything is usually lit up - miles per hour, clock, petrol guage etc - the petrol guage bit and the mileage numbers to the left are not lit up so I cannot see how much diesel I have in the car! Is it a bulb or a fuse and where do I find out where/what to change?

Bang the top of the dash, this at times works, other possibility blown bulbs, or has the dash light dimmer been altered?
