Koran teachings...

So The Koran doesn't imply that the murder of innocents is acceptable - be it Muslim or non-Muslim victims - so the cowardly, murderous actions of these morons is actually hiding behind Islam, rather than perpetrating it in its name.                                    

So where does the benefit lie? The "cause" can only be looked upon as negative, and there's no chance that anybody with any sense will look upon these murders as promotion of a cause..... what is the thinking behind it? Do these people genuinely believe that they will never be called to account, either on earth or elsewhere? Anyone out there provide me with a reason as to how they can possibly think that they can achieve anything from blowing up innocent people?

I read the Koran a few years ago to try to understand the apparent link between islamic fundamentalism and violent acts of terror.I thought it unlikely I would find discrete passages inciting violence against those of other faiths .I was surprised to find these passages did in fact exist in almost the same quantity as they appear in the bible.There is a vein of both these religions which is violently xenophobic.I feel it is up to each individual to take responsibility for their actions and to act on their concience.It is certain there will always be those who have little regard for the rights  and lives of others and their chosen religion be it islam or christianity is no guarantee of  sense of justice.To put it simply  its not "us" and "them",but one planet, one people, one journey.

Birchy, they have stopped counting the number of people killed in Iraq after the invasion began. The bombs here were in tubes and buses, the bombs in baghdad came from 32000 feet and were indiscrminate and since the war began there may have been more than a 100,000 bombs. Is it Ok for the USAF and RAF to bomb innocent people just because they wear uniforms and they are your people. How would you feel if your house was ripped apart and your 5 year old baby girl and 8 year old son were ripped to shreds by a missile that fell from the sky with no warning. You have to look at both sides Birchy if you really want the reasons. Or else you will never find the answers.

Point taken. So the terrorism continues until the number of fatalities is equal...then it stops? We didn't have a say in whether or not the British waged war on Iraq, so what's the answer? Terrorists keep on murdering until - somehow - the British public take over the running of this country and put a stop to the war? That's not going to happen Dom Tuk. So what would you advocate as the way we work towards a solution?

No no its not  apersonal tragedy...but it is a tragedy nevertheless. The point being that we will pay for our policies. The people who elect the government that does this in our name will pay for it sadly...not the politicians. David Shaylor spoke about it very well on yesterdays radio 5 morning show. No the body count will never equalise.....simply because we are mightier then them.....and we will do everything we can to stop it...i mean our politicians will do everything whether we like it or not.

Agreed. But when you've got We're Not Afraid banners festooned all over London, don't they represent red rags to the terrorists? Defiance may well be the way that we "seal with" these tragedies, but the perpetrators of such acts won't all of a sudden say "No point doing this any more....the Brits are too damn plucky". Extremism is all about taking things to the Nth degree. And the people who carried out the London bombings are also part of our democratic system, as voters. I can't see an end to this. But perhaps I'm not comparing like with like?
