Woodchip wallpaper
I have just moved into a 1960's bungalow and all the walls are woodchipped and emulsioned over. I have tried to scrape, steam etc., to get it off but with little success. Has anyone any ideas how to remove it?

Hi shaking, I would score the walls quite well. Then put a small amount of Washing up liquid in some warm water and apply this to the walls with a brush, do this a couple of times before you start trying to get the paper off. The washing up liquid will stop the paper drying out too quickly which will help loosen it. One thought, have the walls got plaster on them. Sometimes to cut costs walls have often been papered over bare plasterboard and then getting the paper off is a very hard job.

Just be careful though. My parents' house is covered in woodchip and anaglypta. Unfortunately, when mum started to take it off the walls to redecorate, she realised that it was that which was actually holding the walls together (the house is rather old though). It cost them a fortune to have the walls repaired. Thus they have decided to leave well alone.
