Why do people have to follow trends?

Makes me laugh when people have to follow with colour schemes , styles etc of new furniture and decorating
Why not just have what you like whether it be "in " or not , as long as it looks good to yourself and you like it ?
BTW im not having a go at anyone just a thought i had : )

Yes it is a shame that people have no imagination of their own i agree with you, but it also may be that they are afraid to express it if they have it,( if you know what i mean ) we seem to follow what the shops want to sell us
such as the likes of BQ, ie, the same wallpaper /colour paint etc, instead of finding an indepedant trader thats not run of the mill, why not mix old with new, that works sometimes, this is one of the drawbacks of big companies like BQ / dfs etc having the market to themselfs

just to point out i was just wondering what was going to be fashionable. if someone said pink and green i wouldnt do it, i would still only go with something i liked.

It's a bit like fashion, you pay a fortune for clothes that are in fashion, then 6 months later the people that made them tell you they are out of fashion and to buy the new stuff they've made and so the cycyle go's on.

Most people dont follow trends. If people like it they do it, just a shame that if they all do it its then called a trend

4getmenot is right. People don't conciously follow a trend. They just see things and think, 'hey, that looks good - I'll get one of those', and it spreads. There's always got to be some trailblazing individuals out there being the first to do whatever it is though.

Yep, but on occasion I have wanted to buy wallpaper in a certain colour, only to find that because it's not fashionable at the moment you can't find it anywhere, so what are you meant to do in that situation? You either don't decorate until the colour you want is back in fashion, or alter your plans.

We're told what we can buy. Anyone tried to get dark green gift-tags or Christmas present tags in the last year or two to go with the dark green ribbon they still sell? Or dark green bedlinen, or bathroom towels? Their total lack of availability doesn't seem to have anything to do with trends. Is dark green a colour that upsets somebody, or what?
