I have had both Anorexia and Bulimia but absolutely hate talking to counsellors. I've only ever been to see NHS counsellors but maybe I need more help with diet...are dieticians any good?? I can feel my control over food growing and I don't want to end up back where I've been so any help with whose helped and who hasn't would be gratefully recieved

hi sweetheart sorry to hear about your problems to be honest i dont think a dietician alone will be able to help you as your problem is food not what you are eating they can advise you on foods which will be healthy for you but not with your direct problem, although using a dietician hand in hand with a counsellor may help. i think you should persever witha counsellor some people have to see quite a few until they find one they are comfortable with perhaps try one that specialises in eating disorders. you could also try the internent to speak with fellow sufferers. please look after your self and try to get some help xx
maybe you should see a physcotherapist (cant spell it sorry) i saw one of them when i was worried about how i looked and was thinking about becoming anorexic/bullimic.. they help you think about how you look in a different way.. if you still arent happy with your appearance try going to the gym instead of making a dramatic change in the amount of food to eat? its working for me sorry if this doesnt help x

Thanks for the comments. I will give the website a go definately. I'm guessing I need to be referred to a psychologist?? I really don't want people knowing that I'm letting them down again, I want to try and deal with it before its obvious that the troubles are around again. Does this make sense?? prob not cos its hard to explain

You are a beautiful ,valued, and worthwhile person and extremely brave to open up to this condition.

We all live in a world of perceptions, how others see us and how we see ourself.,We all have one thing in common though, the ability to love, love yourself be proud and bold of who you are.

hiya abbie

i have had both bulimia and anorexia....i have been to dieticians who were useless, i have been to coucellors, also useless, i am now with a psychiatrist at the priory who is fantastic, if you can it is better to pay and go private, its totally worth it...if u ever need a chat my email is [email protected]. i know what you are going thru, keep positive.

Your local Mental Health Trust will no doubt have an Eating Disorders team, if not, certainly a psychiatrist & nurses, which is what you need. You can get a referral through your GP. If you are under 18 your local CAMHS (Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service) will also have an eating disorders team, again a referral through your GP. Good Luck

i have also had anorexia and bulimia and found the dietician crap all i got was a lecture about what i was doing to myself and told what foods i should be eating all i wanted to do was scream at her and say i know what i should be doing but i cant.i then moved away from the area and found a much better dietition who was very helpfull and who i still see now.

if you think you need more help then please speak out sooner rather than later the NHS is just one big waiting list it took 9mths for me to get to see a counceller

if you need anymore help please let me know i would be happy to help

ps the forums in a pickle mentioned are fantastic

Thanks for all your help. I just hope my GP at uni is as friendly as the one back home. The priory is wikkid and I absolutely loved one of the counsellors I had there but I just can't afford it, as i'm in the final year at uni and have so much debt already.

Thanks for your opinions though and I will definately have a good look at the websites suggested.

Abbie, please do me one favor and whomever you decide to talk to, please re-iterate to them the comment you made about not wanting to let others down again. This may very well be the crux of your problem and while it seems an innocent enough statement, sorting that out may be the key to your success. Good luck and please let us know how you do. xx
