Wonder why when this lap is starting this message always comes up . The battery cannot be identifed This system will be unable to charge battery Press any key to continue .The battery is charging so I dont know why this message should be displayed Any ideas

Take it the make and model of the laptop is a secret then?

Also is it the original battery or a aftermarket one?

Dell inspiron .1501 Original battery which came with it ,3years old

I though you were going to say it was an inspiron 1501 somehow!

It seems to be a common problem with them, and from all the forums about it even Dell seem to be unable to offer a 100% solution.

some people with this problem have said that updating the system BIOS to the latest version solves it

But then other posts I've read say it doesn't help and a new motherboard was the only cure.


You can try updating the BIOS, do it very carefully and follow the instructions on the link above to the letter, if something goes wrong while updating the BIOS it could render the laptop unusable!

Thanks or answering .I would not be all that god at computer jargon so am going to leave it .If its only pressing a key to be able to start computer I will do that.Actually thought it was a sign that the battery was wearing out .
