Just to elaborate on North star's answer:

all the numbers are square roots of 1, 2, 3 etc (to 2 decimal places)

i.e. 1 = sq rooot of 1
1.41 = sq root of 2
1.73 = sq root of 3
2 = sq root of 4
2.24 = sq root of 5

so the next number in the sequence will be 2.45 (= sq root of 6)
