Hi all i took advantage of a free sample of a toothpaste called dazzle smile i had to pay £7.00 for postage from USA, when i checked my bank this morning they had took £54.00 out for something i havent ordered o googled the name and found out this is a scam what can i do? if i go to Barclays (my bank) will they help me also how can i stop them taking more HELP IM SKINT.Thanks for any advice

£7 for postage would make it a very expensive tube of toothpaste even if it weren't a scam

Yes i know £7.oo expensive for toothpaste but it was in dollers (i know i should have checked).I saw this morning but no direct links have phoned bank they said will cancel my card and send out fraud form but when i googled they said even though card cancelled they can still take money is that right?? Thanks

They can still take money from a cancelled card - and if you legitimately owe them something it will stick. (Are you sure you didn't inadvertently sign up for something?) If they are a scam they can keep trying and Barclays will eventually reject it as a fraud.

Apparently if its the same as the one featured on This Morning when you sign up for the free sample you are actually entering into a contract to receive the product EVERY month for a year. Advice was to check their website carefully for an address as it appears they only take cancellations via the post not e-mail fax etc.

This particular scam received coverage in the Daily Telegraph last week and Barclays Bank are aware of the issue so contact them quickly.
This is a warning for everyblody to be very careful about signing up for trials of free products online using your credit or debit card, as cancelling the card doesn't necessarily cancel the ability of the supplier to continue drawing money from it.
If you're a regular online purchaser you may wish to consider getting pre-paid cash card simply for your online purchases. You can add whatever amount you like to your pre-cash card but once it has been emptied it is not connected to your bank account and so no further drawing can be made from it.
Also be very careful when buying things like insurance & magaines online, as you can often find that the small print commits you to having annual premiums or subscriptions taken from your card every year unless you specifically opt out.
