Our local council is considering turning some street lights off at night to save money and reduce emmisions, and they say it will help to reduce crime. Who are they kidding? Who thought up this ridiculous idea, a gang of burglars? What do think? x.

Our council has done this on certain roads. The funny thing iscrime has not increased on those roads, but it has on the ones still lit. So I suppose you could argue they are right - Bill the burglar has moved to where he can see what he is doing!

It looks as if the Jury is split on this...... http://www.theaa.com/...ff-street-lights.html

Can't find a link to the Home office study referred to

Certainly there is evidence that Snail-face is right and ASB is reduced because the hoodies can't see to cause trouble or when the Fuzz arrive!
On a slight tangent...Burglar Bill! Wow that brought back memories of bedtime reading when my eldest was a little 'un, she loved that book :-)

The people who think up schemes like this are probably local councillors who make sure that the do not live in the steets concerned.
Our nearest street lights are in Rye,6 miles away, and we don't seem to get much (in the dark) crime.
All the crime round here (of which there is VERY little) occurs in the daytime.
The lights around our area are switched about midnight to five.

Excellent idea I think, saves on council tax and CO2 emissions.
