I got a free wireless router with my Virgin Media broadband account.

I don't need the router. Can I sell it, or do I have to give it back if I ever leave Virgin Media?

that said, how much do you expect to sell a cable router for, they can be bought new for about 25 quid.

One day you may buy a wireless laptop and need a router, or a visitor may come to your house with a wireless laptop and want to conect to your broadband.

I would keep it, you never know.

Legally, the router is not yours to sell. It remains property of Virgin Media at all times. Of course, that doesn't stop people from selling them anyway, but as Chuck has pointed out, you won't be lining your pockets with gold after the sale, assuming you sell it.

If it's a Netgear router, which many of Virgins are, it will be crippled by their proprietary firmware anyway which any prospective enthusiast buyer will want to flash off it, which can result in it being totally useless, so they won't want to pay very much for it.
