Defammation Of Character.

Greetings each.
I was recently "stitched-up" by a group of church people (would you believe?) regarding a support group I set up, independent of the church I hasten to add, in order to raise funds to restore the Wurlitzer organ (oldest in UK) which is installed at that church.
A so-called "private" letter written to me by the church secretary, containing half-truths, lies and innuendoes concerning my private and personal life, was subsequently circulated to the entire membership by the same person with the obvious intention of discrediting me in the eyes of the rest of the membership. This worked a treat!
I have made enquiries of my solicitor regarding obtaining a retraction, but have been told it is likely to cost me more money than I can easily afford.
Does anyone know of a way in which I can get an official solicitor's letter sent to the culprit, on my behalf, requesting a retraction "or else" without it having to cost me a load of money which I don't now have; please?

Write it yourself, a solicitors letter won't cost a fortune, dpeak to your local newspaper, then tell them to shove their organ where the sun don't shine,

I'm sure a solicitors letter is about £50.00, however, why don't you write a letter yourself and basically take it to a solicitor and say you want it sent as if by them - it might make it cheaper.

You should be able to get a solicitor to write a letter for a couple of hundred quid.

Is there anything in any of the allegations they have made against you? It can be difficult if there is, or something which can look as if there is. Also you do not explain why they have done this, if you are trying to help, It seems strange to bite a hand trying to be helpful, so is there something more to this?

If there isn't I would be tempted to write to the Church Secretary, debunking each and every allegation , (don't miss any out or it looks as if you are avoiding that one,) and demand they publish a retraction or you will be taking legal advice on possible redress. cc your solicitor on the bottom.

I would also take down the statements you make on the website - it just makes you look like somebody with a vendetta rather than a wronged party, however strongly you feel!
