£295,000 bonuses for brave senior immigration officials, who it seems are putting their very lives on the line for us.

Not bad for sitting behind a desk, while thousands still creep into the country,

I wonder how large the bonuses are for our troops who are really putting their livers on the line?

One of those ridiculous reports that says a figure £295,000 but doesn't say how many people are getting this. As an example, if there are 500 people getting this bonus, then that would equate to just over £500 per person - hardly a major issue.

I don't really know what a immigration official does - some of them may well put their lives on the line - especially if any of them deal with illegal immigrant gangs.

Just in case you are interested, I believe that a 6 month stint in Afghanistan is currently £2400 (as I am sure that Cameron said he will double it to £4800 within a couple of months if elected). I think that there are currently about 6000 troops there.

Sangatte has raised its ugly head again with more than 1000 trying to reach us illegally. Its amazing our airport police are armed with machine guns but the people who man our ports in the Border agency have nothing. There is an internal war going on and currently we are the losers.

Shouldn't that be "Sorry, AOG, couldn't let it go"?

Dont blame the immigration officials blame noo labour for poor immigration policies and not having the backbone to deal quickly and efficiently with them when caught, add to that over generous benefits to those coming an and he presto we have the mess we are all in ......... and the BNP gathering pace. Thanks Bottler
Judging from what tends to happen at chucking-out time in Aldershot every Friday night, I'm sure our brave boys are indeed putting their livers on the line. For once in this life, you are right AOG.

After serving one's stint in Afghanistan or just about to embark on one, the condition of one's liver would perhaps be the least of one's worries, taking into account when one is out there each and every day could be your last.

The same scenario could have also been true during WW2, except of course the beer was somewhat stronger in those days.

How many do you get down your neck, after a hard day on the building site?
AOG,

Just to clarify - is your view that soliders should be paid more than anyone else in the public sector?
Just half a shandy - oh, and a packet of salt-and-vinegar crisps.

Up you pop with your obscure questions yet again, just to justify what?

But since you bring the matter up, yes they should be paid a hell of a lot more than they get now, especially when they are on active service, taking into account the pay of other high risk occupations.

Now take it steady you know the risk of all that sugar and salt.
So the determining factor when it comes to setting salaries should be personal risk?

I'm just asking.
