In answer to this (and your other) question,I have extensively "Googled" Richard Crompton and cannot find an author of that name.
Personally,I think your librarian has misheard Richmal Crompton,but that's only MY opinion!

Mr V and Polly are right, as Richard Compton was an actor, who starred in such things as Star Trek.

thankyou all for your help.... i think it's a mistake as well ... on my way to library but as it'sacompetition doubt if they'll tell metill after closing date !!!!!!
